Bible Search Utility

Containing ALT3, ASV, KJV, WEB

ALT3 text by Gary F. Zeolla,
program designed by Reese Currie.

This is a simple Windows software program with the full text for the Analytical-Literal Translation of the New Testament: Third Edition (ALT3). The "ALT3 Only" version only contains the ALT3 text. But the "Full" version also contains the full text (Old and New Testaments) of the American Standard Version (ASV), the King James Version (KJV), and the World English Bible (WEB).

The cost of both versions is the same. The "ALT Only" version is being offered as a smaller download for those with slow Internet connections. But for those with high speed connections, you might as well get the "Full" version with all four Bible versions.

This program makes it easy to look up verses and do searches in these four versions. You can bring up individual verses, a range of verses, or an entire chapter. You can also do searches on individual words, phrases, and combination of words (using "and" and "or" operators). See below for details. Also, a "Help" file provides further details on how to do the searches, along with basic background information on the Bible, on the Bible Search Utility, and on all four versions.

View of the Bible Search Utility screen, with a search done on "Aaron."

To look up a verse, click on "Search" then "Look up verse." Alternatively, you can just press F9. Either way, it will bring up a small window that reads: "Look up verse" with a box to type in. Type in say Rom 1:1-8 and it will bring up those verses. But note, you cannot bring up an entire book, just one chapter at a time. So typing in "Matthew" will bring up an error message, but typing "Mat 1" will bring up the first chapter of Matthew. Note also, the book abbreviations are the first three letters of the book name. For books with numbers, the number counts as a letter, e.g., "1Co." for First Corinthians.

You can also search for words using Search/ Find Text (or F10). Type in the start and end book you wish to search (Mat/ Rev for the entire New Testament). You can also do searches for phrases, like "word of god." Note that the searches are not case sensitive.

You can also use "and", "or" and "not" logical operators to refine your text search. To specify an operator, you type it with a period before and after the operator name, e.g. ".and.". There must be a blank space on either side of an operator, e.g. "repent .and. believe".

Searches can be saved by using "File/ Save as" or by clicking the Save icon. These can then be opened by using "File/ Open" or clicking on the Open icon. Note that the Open function does not open up the Bible book files. Again, only one chapter at a time can be opened using "Search/ Look up verse."
